Singapore Premier league
Formerly known as ‘S.League’, the Singapore Premier League (SPL) is the only professional sports league in Singapore. The SPL is Singapore’s top-tier professional football league. It was formed in 1996, 2 years after Singapore FA withdrew from Malaysia’s football league, ‘Liga Perdana’.
Currently, the SPL is contested by 9 clubs – 7 of which are local clubs (Balestier Khalsa, Geylang International, Home United, Hougang United, Tampines Rovers, Warriors FC, Young Lions) and 2 of which are foreign clubs from Brunei (Brunei DPMM) and Japan (Albirex Niigata Singapore).
The clubs in the SPL play a 3-round league format, resulting in each teams playing 24 games per season. The SPL has no relegation or promotion system. Clubs enter the SPL based on invitation from the Football Association of Singapore.
Based on the 2016, 2017 and 2018 seasons whereby the league is contested by 9 clubs, the league typically starts in the month of February or March, and ends in the month of October or November. SPL matches are held on both weekdays and weekends, kicking off in the evening or at night.

FAS National Football League
The FAS National Football League (NFL) is a semi-professional football league. Clubs contesting in the NFL are affiliated with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS). The NFL consists of 2 divisions – Division 1 and Division 2. The NFL is contested by a total of 22 teams, 11 teams in each division. The 2 divisions in the NFL operates on a promotion and relegation system. A few teams that finish in the bottom of the table from Division 1 will be relegated to Division 2, and a few teams that finish in the top of the table from Division 2 will be promoted to Division 1.
Several former footballers from the S. League ply their trade in the NFL. Notable former S. League players who are currently playing in the NFL 2017/18 series include Yazid Yasin and Indra Sahdan.

FAS Island Wide League
The FAS Island Wide League (IWL) is a football league in Singapore contested by clubs affiliated with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS). The clubs will be divided into 2 groups – Group A and Group B. Teams will play against teams in their own group in a league format. 8 teams (top 4 teams from each group) will advance to the next round which is played in a tournament format.
The champion and the runner up of the IWL will be promoted to the FAS National Football League (NFL) in the following season.
Each of the 2 teams that lost in the semi-finals stage in the tournament round will play against one of the bottom 2 teams in the NFL. The winning teams of these 2 matches will remain in or be promoted to the NFL in the following season.
FAS Women’s Premier League
FAS Women’s premier league is the top-tier women’s football league in Singapore. As of 2018, the league is contested by 4 teams – Home United, Police SA, Warriors and Woodlands Wellington.
Each team plays 2 legs against each other and plays 6 games per season. At the end of the season, the team that finishes at the bottom of the table will be relegated to the FAS Women’s National Football League.

FAS Women’s National Football League
FAS Women’s premier league is the second-tier women’s football league in Singapore. It was formed recently in 2017. Before the formation of this league, the Singapore women’s team all played in a single division. Back then, the very wide range of ability level across the league caused an issue whereby there were several one-sided matches. The FAS Women’s National Football League was created to ensure the women football teams get to experience more evenly-matched games, making the league more competitive for the stronger teams and less discouraging for the weaker teams.
Each team will only play 1 leg against each other. The team that tops the league table at the end of the season will be promoted to the FAS Women’s Premier League in the following season.
